The experience
The boat leaves and covers the distance to the islands in 30 minutes: the operator calls it a "fantastic ride" with sensations guaranteed. You'll dock on Grande Sanguinaire (also called Mezzu mare), one of the four rocky islands that make up the archipelago, where you have roughly an hour to spend on foot or in the water.
The main draw is the lighthouse, which dates from 1870 and sits at the island's highest point, 80 meters above the sea. Walking up gives you a 360-degree view across the water and back toward the coast. The semaphore station is also there to see. If you'd rather not climb, you can swim in the bay or sit on the rocks instead. The hour is yours to split however you want.
The tour runs in French with a live guide on board. Children from age 4 can come along. Private transportation is included, so you don't arrange your own way to the boat. The whole outing takes about three hours from start to finish, timed to catch the sunset over the water on the ride back.
