You board a small boat in the Gulf of Ajaccio and cruise to the Sanguinary Islands as the sun sets, swimming in warm water and eating local aperitif while the sky turns red and orange. The skipper stays anchored long enough for you to watch the full sunset, then returns you to shore in the evening. No long itinerary, no crowds — just the moment itself.
There's something about standing on a boat as the light changes that makes you stop talking. You're heading out into the Gulf of Ajaccio in a small group, maybe eight or ten people, and the skipper is pointing toward the Sanguinary Islands — those rocky outcrops that got their name, supposedly, from the way the sunset paints them blood-orange and deep red. You don't quite believe it until you see it happen.
The boat leaves in the early evening and takes you out to the islands where you'll anchor and swim in the warm water if you want to. That's when the aperitif comes out — a meal tray of local Corsican products, cheese, charcuterie, things that taste like they came from somewhere real, not a supermarket. There's wine too. You're floating in the Gulf, the water still warm enough that jumping in doesn't shock you, and the sky is doing that thing where it goes from blue to gold to orange all at once. The skipper doesn't rush you through it. You stay long enough to watch the whole thing, to see the sun actually sink below the horizon and the islands go from glowing to silhouette.
It's the kind of evening that doesn't need much — no long itinerary, no five stops, no rushing between things. Just the boat, the water, the light, and people who showed up for the same reason you did. Bring a swimsuit and a towel. The whole thing is maybe three hours, and you'll be back before dark.
Your evening includes the boat cruise to the Sanguinary Islands, a meal tray of local Corsican products, wine and other beverages, and time to swim in the Gulf of Ajaccio at sunset. The skipper guides the boat and stays anchored during the sunset so you can take in the full experience.
