The experience
The tour departs Paris in the morning and heads into Normandy countryside, stopping first in Rouen, the region's ancient capital, where your guide leads a tour of the Old Town before you continue to Honfleur, a seaside town on the coast. You'll have free time for lunch at your own expense, then travel to Omaha Beach to see where Allied forces landed in World War II, followed by a visit to the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial at Saint-Laurent. The day ends with a stop in Arromanches before dinner and an overnight stay at a 4-star hotel in Caen.
Day two takes you northwest into Brittany. After a buffet breakfast, your guide leads a walking tour of Saint-Malo's ancient walled city and cathedral, then you travel to Mont Saint-Michel: a UNESCO World Heritage site and island fortress on the Normandy coast. Your Abbey entrance ticket is included, so you explore the monument at your own pace, wandering its cobbled streets and alleyways before an overnight stay in a 4-star hotel in Angers. Lunch and dinner are at your own expense.
The final day moves into the Loire Valley's château country. You depart Angers after breakfast and pass Château d'Angers en route, then stop at Château de Langeais: a 15th-century medieval castle rebuilt by King Louis XI after the Hundred Years' War. Your guide explains its centuries of history before you continue to Chenonceau on the Loire River for lunch (own expense) and a guided tour of this remarkable château. The tour concludes with a guided visit to Chambord, the grandiose castle of King François I, where you have free time to explore its famous double helix staircase before returning to Paris in the evening.
