Make a candle that holds a memory of Lapland

A two-hour candle-making class in Rovaniemi where you hand-pour a 20 cl soy candle, choose from five fragrances, and take it home as a souvenir. The workshop explores how scent connects to memory and Lappish winter, with a live guide in English, Finnish, Russian, Chinese and two other languages. Children are welcome from age 6, and snacks plus coffee and tea are included.

The experience

Rovaniemi's candle workshop starts with a sensory journey through the operator's fragrance library. You'll sample scents and talk through how they connect to memory: the smell of apple pie in a grandmother's kitchen, mulled wine at a Christmas market, the woods of Finnish Lapland. The link between what you smell and what you remember is the thread running through the two hours, and it shapes which of the five available fragrances you'll choose for your own candle.

Once you've picked your scent, you hand-pour 100% soy wax into a 20 cl tin vessel, add a cotton wick, and finish it with your chosen fragrance. The guide walks you through each step. What you make is yours to take home: a physical reminder of the workshop and a candle to burn long after the holiday ends. Snacks, coffee and tea are included. The workshop runs in English, Finnish, Russian, Chinese and two additional languages, and children from age 6 can join.
