Walk through rooms carved from ice and eat lunch on a plate made of it

A guided tour of the Arctic Snowhotel in Rovaniemi takes you through ice-carved rooms to learn how the hotel is built fresh each year. You check the guest rooms, see the ice bar and restaurant, then sit down for a three-course meal on ice plates in the restaurant itself. The tour runs 3.5 hours and includes thermal overalls, snow boots, entrance, and a professional guide in English, Spanish, French or Persian.

The experience

The tour starts with a guide who meets you at your accommodation and takes you to the Snowhotel. On arrival you get your entrance ticket and join a Snowhotel representative for the walk through the rooms. The hotel is rebuilt entirely from ice and snow each winter, so the guide explains the design and construction process as you move through the space: how the structure holds, what materials they use, why it has to be rebuilt annually. You see the guest rooms where people actually sleep, the ice bar where drinks are served in glasses made from ice, and the common areas.

After the tour, lunch happens in the ice restaurant. The meal is a three-course sit-down service: a starter, a main (salmon, chicken, moose, or vegetarian), and cake for dessert. You eat off plates carved from ice. Coffee and a drink are part of the experience, and you can buy souvenirs from the hotel shop before heading back. Thermal overalls and snow boots are provided so you stay warm inside the hotel. If you want to rent them instead of using the provided pair, that costs 10 euros extra.
