An autumn husky cart activity at Apukka Resort near Rovaniemi where you drive your own team of sled dogs through forests and open fields for 3 km. After the ride, you learn about the huskies' specialized training and daily routines over hot berry juice. Transfers from Rovaniemi city center or Santa Claus Village are included, as is guiding in English and time to pet the dogs.

The experience

You take the controls of the cart yourself. This is not a ride where a guide drives while you watch. After a brief introduction to handling the team, you steer your own pair of huskies through vibrant forests and open fields. The dogs are trained athletes eager to run, and the 3 km route lets you feel their power firsthand as you manage the cart through the terrain. Two people share each cart, so you and a travel companion take turns at the reins or both participate in steering.

Once you're back at the farm, the pace shifts. You sit down with hot berry juice and light snacks while the guide talks through what you've just experienced: the specialized training routines these dogs go through, their everyday life at the farm, and the fact that the owner knows every one of his over 100 huskies by name. You also get time to pet the dogs and get closer to them after the ride.

Transfers are included if you need them from Rovaniemi city center or Santa Claus Village to Apukka Resort and back. The whole activity runs about 90 minutes. Bring outdoor clothing and shoes of your own. The resort provides everything else you need to drive the cart safely.
