Step-by-step itinerary

Evening ATV Aurora hunt

  • Hop on ATV
  • Ride through Arctic forest
  • Follow forest trails and open terrain
  • Reach Aurora viewing spot
  • Watch Northern Lights

The experience

What makes this different from watching the Aurora from town is the reach: an ATV gets you past the city lights and into the open areas where the sky actually clears. You ride for three hours through Arctic forest, following trails and open terrain with a guide who knows where the Aurora shows best. The route takes you to a small hill with wide northern views: the kind of vantage point a car cannot reach and a walk on foot would take all night to find. Along the way you feel the crisp Lapland air and the stillness of the evening, broken only by the sound of your engine.

You choose between solo driving, operating your own quad bike, or twin driving, where you ride as a passenger. Either way, a valid driving license is required to operate. If you don't have one, you sit as a passenger on a twin bike. Children over 140 cm tall can ride as passengers at the adult rate. The guide handles navigation and timing. You handle the throttle and the terrain. Winter adventure gear is provided, and at the viewing spot you get coffee, tea, hot chocolate or juice while you wait for the Aurora to move across the sky.

Pickup is included, and the guide speaks English throughout. The experience suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or pregnant travelers. Bring your valid driving license with you.

Is this one for you?Choose solo driving if you want to operate the ATV yourself through the forest and terrain. Choose twin driving if you'd rather ride as a passenger and let the guide handle the machine. Either way, the ATV's reach is what gets you to the open hilltop where Aurora conditions are clearest: a vantage point that walking or a standard tour cannot access in one evening.

Top questions

Can I ride an ATV if I don't have a driving license?

No, a valid driving license is required to operate an ATV. If you don't have one, you can book the twin driving option and ride as a passenger instead.

What is the Arctic forest like on the ride out to the Aurora spot?

The route follows forest trails and open terrain through Lapland's autumn landscape. You travel through the Arctic wilderness with a guide, moving deeper into nature as the evening settles and the city lights fade behind you.

Why does the ATV route lead to a hilltop instead of staying in the forest?

The hilltop is a carefully selected viewing spot with wide northern views and often clearer skies: the conditions that favor Aurora sightings. The mobility of the ATV is what makes reaching these open areas possible in a single evening.

How long is the three-hour ride, and what happens at the viewing spot?

The full experience is three hours. You spend that time riding through the forest and across terrain to reach the hilltop, where you stop to watch for the Aurora. Hot drinks are provided while you wait.

What should I bring, and what gear is provided?

Bring your valid driving license. Winter adventure gear is provided for the ride, including what you need to stay warm during the evening and at the viewing spot.
