The Experience
Your guide meets you at the cruise terminal exit gate holding a sign with your name, then a driver takes you 10 minutes uphill to Toompea. From there, the walking tour begins on foot: you'll see Toompea Castle, the medieval towers Kiek in de Kök and Tall Hermann, two cathedrals, and two viewpoints where the city spreads below you. The guide speaks English and covers what interests you—you decide how long to stay at each stop and what topics to go deeper on.
After Toompea, you descend to the lower town and walk a quieter route away from the main tourist sites for about 30 minutes. Then the tour heads toward Town Hall Square, passing the medieval town wall, old merchants' houses, the Great Guild House, the Church of the Holy Spirit, St. Catherines Passage, and one of Europe's oldest pharmacies. You can stop into cafés, workshops and galleries as you pass. The whole walking portion takes three hours.
When the tour ends at Town Hall Square, you have 1.5 hours free to explore on your own—grab a glass of wine or beer, sit in the square, or wander the passages you noticed. Your driver meets you at a spot four to five minutes' walk away and drives you back to the cruise terminal gate. The entire experience runs five hours from pickup to drop-off. Bottle of still water is included; entry to St. Mary's Cathedral is included.

What exactly is Toompea Hill and what will I see there on this tour?
Toompea Hill is the upper part of Tallinn's medieval old city, home to Toompea Castle, two defensive towers (Kiek in de Kök and Tall Hermann), two cathedrals dedicated to St. Mary and St. Alexander Nevsky, and two viewpoints where you can photograph the lower town and surrounding landscape. Your guide will walk you through this area and explain the history and architecture.
How much walking is involved, and are the streets flat or hilly?
The tour includes three hours of walking, starting on Toompea Hill and descending to the lower old town. The surfaces are uneven in places—cobblestones, medieval streets, and some slopes—so the tour is not suitable for people with mobility issues or wheelchair users, and requires at least moderate physical fitness.
What happens during the 1.5 hours of free time after the guided tour ends?
After the three-hour walking tour concludes at Town Hall Square, you have 1.5 hours to explore on your own. You can sit in the square, visit cafés or galleries you noticed during the tour, or walk the passages and side streets at your own pace. Your driver will meet you at a designated spot nearby to drive you back to the cruise terminal.
Will the guide take me to the main tourist sites, or will we avoid the crowds?
The tour includes major landmarks like Town Hall Square, the medieval town wall, and the Church of the Holy Spirit, but also includes a 30-minute walk through quieter parts of the lower town away from the main sites. Since it's a private tour, you can tell your guide which stops matter most to you and how long to spend at each one.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to pay for separately?
The tour includes the English-speaking guide for three hours, round-trip transfer from and to the cruise terminal, entry to St. Mary's Cathedral, and a bottle of still water. Food and drinks at cafés are not included—you pay for those during your free time.
How does pickup work if my ship docks late or my tour time changes?
At the time of booking, you provide the name of your cruise ship, the scheduled docking time, and the time you want your tour to start. Your guide will meet you at the cruise terminal exit gate at your agreed time. The exit gate is about 300 meters (0.2 miles) from the ship, roughly an 8-minute walk.
