The experience

Your guide meets you at the Tower Welcome Centre just outside the main entrance and walks you through the gates with murder holes into the fortress itself. The first stop is the ravens (Merlina, Jubilee, Grip and others) some resting in their cages, some hopping freely around the grounds. They'll pose for pictures if you keep your distance. They can bite. From there, the tour moves into the Bloody Tower, where you learn who was imprisoned there, and then past the torture chamber with its medieval instruments still on display.

The jewel house is the centerpiece: the crown, the sceptre, the orb, and the entire collection behind thick guarded doors. After that, you explore the White Tower, the oldest part of the fortress, packed with armor that belonged to Henry VIII, Charles I and other famous kings. There's an interactive exhibition upstairs where both children and adults can get involved. By the end of the tour, you've walked through several towers and seen enough medieval history to understand why this place held prisoners, royalty, and treasure all at once.

Once you leave the fortress, you get a view of Tower Bridge from outside, and if the timing works, you might see it open. Your Blue Badge guide carries the facts and stories that make the day hold together, not a rushed walk-through, but a conversation about what each room meant and who lived or died there.
