Summary

Walk Whitechapel’s old lanes, uncover clues and hear the voices behind the Jack the Ripper mystery

You’ll trace Jack the Ripper’s footsteps through Whitechapel with an expert guide, exploring real crime scenes and hearing stories of the victims’ lives. Your detective pack helps you collect clues as you wander rain-soaked alleys and pause at pubs and churches that witnessed history. Expect moments that linger long after—like standing in Puma Court or hearing your own footsteps echo in the dark.

experience

What’s the experience like?

Ever wonder what it really felt like to walk those East London streets back in 1888? I didn’t think much about it until we turned off Brick Lane — all those curry houses giving way to these narrow, cobbled alleys where our guide (he called himself a “Ripperologist”, which made me smile) started talking about Annie Chapman like she was someone he’d actually known. The air smelled of rain on old brick, and you could almost hear echoes of boots from another time. I kept glancing over my shoulder, half-expecting something — or someone — to appear out of the mist. Maybe I watch too many detective shows.

We each got this detective pack at the start (mine had a little notebook and pencil; I lost the pencil almost immediately but nobody seemed to mind). There was a moment outside an old pub — apparently some of the victims’ last stop — when our group just went quiet listening to their stories. Not just facts or gory details, but who these women were before they became names in a case file. It’s weird how a place can feel haunted by memory more than anything else. Our guide asked us what we thought really happened that night at Mitre Square, and for once nobody wanted to be first to answer.

Puma Court hasn’t changed much since then — honestly, it’s easy to see how someone could disappear there even now. There was this bit where we stopped by a church that used to shelter women looking for safety. The city noise faded for a second and all you heard was footsteps and maybe your own thoughts running wild. I still think about that silence.
