The experience
Eight to ten hours covers three pyramid fields without the hassle of navigating Cairo's streets alone. Your Egyptologist guide meets you at your hotel at 8am and handles all transport, so you move between sites without arranging taxis or negotiating with drivers. The day starts at Giza with the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the only surviving wonder of the ancient world, plus the pyramids of Chephren and Mycerinus. You'll climb to the panorama point on the plateau, the highest vantage, to photograph all three pyramids together, then mount a camel for a 30-minute ride across the Sahara around the base.
From Giza, the route continues to the Valley Temple of Chephren, where pharaohs were purified and mummified before burial, and to the Great Sphinx with its pharaoh's head and lion's body. Lunch happens in a restaurant overlooking the pyramids, eaten with your guide. The afternoon takes you to Saqqara, home to Egypt's first pyramid, and to several nobles' tombs, then to Dahshur, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There you see Senefru's Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, among the oldest and best-preserved in Egypt. The Red Pyramid is the only one in Egypt that still has its outer casing layer intact. You can enter it if you choose, though the passage is tight and demands fitness.
