The experience

Karnak Temple opens the day: the largest and oldest temple complex in the world, its forest of columns and pylons laid out across a site that took centuries to build. A guide leads you through the scale of it, past the Great Hypostyle Hall and into the smaller sanctuaries that branch off from the main axis. The sheer size is the point. Nothing else in Luxor prepares you for the footprint.

The Valley of the Kings comes next, where the greatest pharaohs of Egypt were buried in tombs carved into the rock.
