The experience

You get picked up from your Hurghada hotel (or from Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh, Safaga or Soma Bay if you're staying there), and driven to the riding start point. A professional guide briefs you on the quad bike, helps you into the safety gear, and runs through the controls before you head out. The guide leads the group through the desert, and you spend roughly 1.5 hours riding through dunes and along the coast, taking in views of the Red Sea, mountains and hills as you go.

The route takes you to the Red Sea Cliffs, where the group stops for photos. If you book the sunset option, you'll watch the sun drop between the mountains and have a photo session on the beach before riding to spots where you can see coral formations from above. Morning and afternoon departures skip the sunset but follow the same desert and cliff route. You ride either a single quad or a double (two-seater) depending on which option you choose at checkout.

The whole outing (pickup, briefing, riding, photo stops and return) runs about three hours. A bottle of mineral water is included. The guide speaks English, French, German or Russian depending on the group. If you're staying in El Gouna or the Al Ahyaa area, transfers can be added for a small extra fee.

A single quad is a one-person bike you operate alone. A double quad seats two people and one person drives while the other rides as a passenger. Both options follow the same route and include the same stops.

Do I need experience riding a quad bike to book this?

No prior experience is required. The guide gives a safety briefing and riding instructions before you set out, and you'll have time to get comfortable with the bike before the group heads into the desert.

What time of day should I choose? Morning, afternoon or sunset?

Morning and afternoon rides follow the same desert and cliff route with different light. The sunset option includes a photo session on the beach and stops to view coral from above, so you get extra stops but ride during the cooler evening hours.

Is hotel pickup really included, or does it cost extra?

Hotel pickup and drop-off from Hurghada, Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh, Safaga or Soma Bay is included in all options. If you're staying in El Gouna or Al Ahyaa, you can add a transfer for $10 or $5 per person respectively.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dusty and closed-toe shoes. Bring sunscreen and sunglasses. A scarf and protective glasses are not included but are recommended for desert riding.
