Horseback riding in Hurghada takes you from the desert through to the Red Sea beach on a horse suited to your experience, with a live guide, hotel pickup and safety equipment included. Beginners and experienced riders both get matched to the right horse, and in summer you can swim with your horse in the water. The ride lasts 1.5 to 2 hours and ends back at the stable.

The experience

Your driver picks you up from your hotel or a meeting point within the designated area: no extra cost for that. The drive to the stable takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on where you're staying. When you arrive, you'll meet your guide and see the horses, along with the other animals that live at the stable: cats, dogs, sheep, goats and donkeys. The guide watches how you move around the animals and asks about your riding experience, then picks a horse that matches your level. Beginners get a short introduction to handling and safety. Everyone gets a helmet, and children under a certain age also get a safety jacket.

The ride itself runs 1.5 to 2 hours. You start in the desert, moving toward the Red Sea coast as the landscape opens up. If the weather cooperates (which it usually does in summer), you'll ride into the water and swim with the horses, an experience most riders don't forget. You can take photos and video on your own phone at no charge. A professional photographer is there if you want prints, at €15 per person. After the ride and any photo stops, you head back to the stable and your driver takes you back to your hotel.
