The Experience
The day starts with hotel pickup and heads into El Moez Le Din Allah Street, a witness to historical Cairo with monuments spread along both sides. This is where the tour anchors—one of the oldest streets in Egypt, lined with cobblestones and the religious architecture that shaped Islamic Cairo. From here you move into El Darb El Asfar, the most ancient quarter of Islamic Cairo monuments, where you visit the Barqouq mosque and school, El Aqmar Mosque, the Mosque of El Saleh Talae, the Blue Mosque, and the school and hospital of Qalawoon. You also walk through Bayt El Sehaymi and along Al Darb Al Ahmar Street, where traditional crafts still operate—the saddle makers market on Suq al-Silah Street produces leatherware the way it has for centuries.
Lunch at a local restaurant breaks the day in the middle, then you continue to Al Moez Street itself, described in the itinerary as the most beautiful Islamic street in Cairo. The final stop is Al Azhar Park, at the heart of old historic Cairo, where you take in views of the city from the shaded palisades. A qualified Egyptologist guide leads the whole route and explains what you are standing in front of; bottled water is provided throughout the day.
The tour runs eight hours total. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, and the guide speaks English; guides in Spanish, French, German or Italian are available for an extra fee, as are guides in Czech, Japanese, Chinese or Russian. If you are staying outside Cairo city, pickup can be arranged for an additional charge. Children are welcome from age 6, and all areas and surfaces are wheelchair accessible.
