Operate your own quad through open desert, then watch the sunset from a mountain ridge after camel riding at a Bedouin camp.

ATV riding in Marsa Alam is a 3-hour quad bike safari departing from Port Ghalib where you operate your own bike through desert plains, rocky canyons and mountains. Midway through, you stop at a real Bedouin camp to drink fresh tea made over an open fire, ride a camel, and learn about local traditions from Bedouin hosts before hiking to a mountain ridge to watch the sunset. The route is chosen for both safety and scenery, with small groups and professional guides in English, Italian, German or Polish. Pickup from Marsa Alam or Port Ghalib hotels is included, and you can add a BBQ dinner back at the quad center if you choose.

The Experience

You start at the desert base near Port Ghalib with a safety briefing and helmet fitting, then ride your own quad bike into Marsa Alam's open landscape. The route passes the Akasia Tree (a landmark you'll stop to photograph), and winds through rocky terrain and wide plains. The bikes are well-maintained and the guides keep groups small so you get personal attention and real instruction on handling the bike across different ground.

Halfway through the ride, you arrive at a Bedouin village where the pace shifts. A Bedouin host prepares fresh tea or karkade over an open fire while you sit in the camp. You ride a camel for photos and learn about the traditions and daily life of the people who live in this desert. The hookah is there if you want it. Then you ride back to the quads and head up a mountain on foot to watch the sunset from the ridge, with the desert spread out below you in the fading light.

After the sunset, you ride back to the quad center and return to your hotel by air-conditioned bus. If you've chosen the BBQ dinner option, that happens at the center before the drive back. The whole experience runs about three hours of active riding and stops, and it suits all fitness levels. The pace and terrain are managed so you're challenged but not overwhelmed.

Top questions

Can I ride a quad bike if I've never done it before?

Yes. The safety briefing covers everything you need to know, and the guides lead small groups so they can watch your progress and help you get comfortable with the bike. The route is chosen to be both safe and scenic, not extreme.

What happens at the Bedouin camp?

You stop for about an hour. A Bedouin host makes fresh tea or karkade over an open fire, you ride a camel, and the hosts share stories about their traditions and life in the desert. Egyptian hookah is available if you want to try it.

Is hotel pickup included?

Yes, pickup and drop-off by air-conditioned vehicle are included from Marsa Alam or Port Ghalib hotels. Some distant hotels may have additional fees. Check with the operator when you book.

What's the difference between the single and double quad options?

A single quad is one bike per person. A double quad seats two people on one bike. Both follow the same route and stop at the Bedouin camp. You can add a BBQ dinner at the quad center with either option.

How long does the whole experience take?

The riding and stops take about three hours. Add time for the safety briefing at the start and the return drive to your hotel. If you choose the BBQ dinner option, that adds another hour or so at the quad center.

What should I bring or wear?

Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dusty. The operator provides a safety helmet. Sunscreen and sunglasses are a good idea. Scarves and goggles are not included, so bring your own if you want extra protection from dust.
