Two temples, two gods, one private guide who explains what the double layout actually means.

A private day trip from Aswan to Kom Ombo and Edfu temples on the Nile, led by an Egyptologist guide who speaks your language. Hotel pickup starts at 7 am; the route covers Kom Ombo's dual sanctuaries (one for the crocodile god Sobek, one for the falcon-headed Horus) and Edfu's larger cult temple, with lunch included and return to Aswan or optional drop-off in Luxor for an extra charge. The guide unravels the history and layout of each site as you walk through the columns, forecourts and chambers.

The Experience

You're picked up from your Aswan hotel at 7 am in a private air-conditioned vehicle. The drive north follows the Nile to Kom Ombo Temple, which sits on high ground overlooking the river. What sets it apart from other temples is the double entrance—each one dedicated to a different god. Your guide walks you through the stone columns, forecourt and sanctuaries, explaining how Sobek (the crocodile god of fertility) and Haroeris (the falcon-headed Horus) share the space. The layout itself tells a story about how the ancient Egyptians honored two deities in one structure.

After the morning at Kom Ombo, you stop for lunch at a local restaurant serving Egyptian food (included if you select that option at checkout). Then it's a road transfer to Edfu, where the temple dedicated to Horus is considered one of Egypt's best-preserved cult temples. Your guide takes you through the large pylon, court and inner chambers, connecting the mythology—Horus avenging his father Osiris—to the architecture and carvings you're standing in front of. The scale and condition of Edfu make the contrast with Kom Ombo's more intimate layout clear.

At the end of the day, the driver returns you to your hotel in Aswan, or you can choose to be dropped in Luxor instead for an additional $25. All entry fees, water and transport are included; the guide speaks English, Spanish, German, Arabic or another language depending on your booking.

Top questions

What's the difference between Kom Ombo and Edfu temples that makes them worth seeing on the same day?

Kom Ombo has a rare double layout with two entrances and sanctuaries side by side, one for Sobek and one for Horus, while Edfu is a single large cult temple to Horus and is one of Egypt's best-preserved temples overall. Seeing both shows how the ancient Egyptians designed temples differently depending on their purpose and the gods they honored.

What time does the tour start and when do I get back to my hotel?

Hotel pickup is at 7 am from your Aswan accommodation. The full day is about 8 hours, so you'll return to your hotel in the late afternoon, or you can opt for drop-off in Luxor instead.

Is lunch included, and what kind of food is it?

Lunch at a local restaurant serving Egyptian food is included if you choose the "Tour + Lunch" option at checkout. If you select "Tour without Lunch," you'll skip the meal stop.

Do I need to arrange my own transportation to the temples?

No. Hotel pickup from Aswan, all transfers between sites, and return transport are included in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Entry fees to both temples are also included.

What language does the guide speak?

The guide speaks English, Spanish, German, Arabic or one additional language depending on which option you book. Confirm your preferred language when you complete your booking.

Can I end the day in Luxor instead of returning to Aswan?

Yes. At the end of the tour, you can choose to be dropped off at a hotel in Luxor for an extra $25 instead of returning to Aswan.
