The experience

The cruise departs Aswan and moves south along the Nile, stopping at each temple site while you stay in the same cabin. Day one begins at the Aswan High Dam, built in the 1960s to control the river's flow, then a motorboat carries you to the Temple of Philae, a Graeco-Roman temple dedicated to Isis. That evening you return to the ship for dinner and a folkloric show. The next morning, a horse-drawn carriage takes you to the Temple of Horus in Edfu, one of Egypt's best-preserved monuments from the Ptolemaic period with its massive pylons and carved reliefs still intact. The ship then sails to Luxor, where you explore the Temple of Karnak (a sprawling complex of 134 towering columns in its Hypostyle Hall), and the Temple of Luxor on the east bank.

Day three is devoted to the west bank sites near Luxor. The Valley of the Kings holds the rock-cut tombs of New Kingdom pharaohs, including Tutankhamun's, with hieroglyphics and wall paintings depicting the journey to the afterlife. You then visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, a mortuary temple built into the cliffs for the female pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty, and the Colossi of Memnon: two 18-meter quartzite statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III seated on his throne. After these final stops, you disembark.

An Egyptologist guide accompanies all excursions and speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and two additional languages. Your five-star cabin includes all meals on board. Transfers by air-conditioned vehicle connect the ship to each site. Pickup and assistance at arrival and departure are arranged for you. Infants can sit on an adult's lap or use a specialized seat. All areas of the ship and transportation are wheelchair accessible.
