The experience
The day starts with a pickup in Quito and a drive to Baños, where you'll first visit a local candy factory to sample traditional sweets: taffy, candied fruits, and artisanal chocolates made by hand. From there, the tour moves through the town's main attractions. You'll reach the Pailón del Diablo (Devil's Cauldron), an impressive waterfall surrounded by mist, where you can walk different viewpoints to see the full force of the water. The guide explains the landscape and local culture as you move between stops.
Manto de la Novia is where the cable car comes in: instead of hiking down, you descend by tarabita (a traditional cable car) that runs alongside the waterfall itself, giving you a close view of the white water that falls like a veil down the mountainside. The Swing at the End of the World is the centerpiece: a wooden swing hanging from a tree house on the slope of Tungurahua volcano, where you swing out over the abyss with views of the valley and the active volcano behind you. Lunch is served during the day, and you'll return to Quito by evening.
The tour runs 8 to 9 hours total. You can book as a shared group, a private tour, or solo travel. All options include the same stops, guide, meals and tickets. A bilingual guide (English and Spanish) leads throughout, and a water bottle is provided. Pickup and drop-off in Quito are included.
