The experience
Seven to nine hours takes you through three distinct stops, each one a different kind of landscape. You start at the Equatorial Monument (a colonial-style structure built right on latitude 0°0'0"), where you can stand in two hemispheres at once. From there, the route climbs to the Pululahua volcano viewpoint to see the wide caldera before dropping into the cloud forest itself.
The Mindo Cloud Forest is where the day shifts from monument-visiting to walking. A guide leads you through the forest on foot toward Nambilla Waterfalls, and the hike passes through habitat where toucans and quetzals live. The forest itself is the draw: incredibly diverse, the operator says, and the waterfalls are the destination the walk builds toward. Free time is built in for optional activities like cable cars or butterfly visits if you want them, but the core experience is the forest and the water.
Private transportation picks you up and carries you between all three sites. The guide speaks Spanish and travels with the group the whole way. Entry to the monument and admission to the waterfall are choices you make at checkout, not automatic inclusions.
