The experience

The day starts in Quito and climbs toward Cotopaxi Volcano, where the temperature drops as you gain altitude. At Limpiopungo Lagoon, you stand at the base of the volcano with views across the high-altitude lake and the wildlife that moves through it. The route then descends into the warmer climate of Baños, a shift you feel as the landscape changes from sparse alpine terrain to lush vegetation.

In Baños, the Swing at the End of the World hangs from a tree house on the edge of a canyon, and when you swing out, Tungurahua Volcano rises across the gorge. The cable car carries you over Bride's Veil Waterfall, a suspended crossing that frames the cascade from above. At Devil's Cauldron, one of Ecuador's most powerful waterfalls, you walk the scenic trails and bridges that let you stand close to the water as it thunders into the gorge. Between stops, you taste Salcedo's layered ice creams, a local specialty made with tropical fruit.
