The experience
The tour starts at a traditional cacao farm outside the city, where a local guide walks you through the tropical plantations and shows you how Ecuador's world-famous fine aroma cacao becomes chocolate. You'll see the harvesting, roasting, and artisanal techniques used for generations, then taste authentic Ecuadorian chocolate while learning how cacao fits into the country's agricultural and cultural identity.
After the farm, you return to Guayaquil to explore the city's most recognizable neighborhoods. Las Peñas draws you through colorful colonial streets and local art galleries in one of the oldest parts of the city. The main pull here is the 444 steps up Santa Ana Hill: a steep climb that rewards you with panoramic views over Guayaquil, the Guayas River, and the city skyline. From there, you move to Puerto Santa Ana, a modern waterfront district built on what used to be industrial land, where you can walk along the riverside promenade, see restaurants and cafés, and feel the contrast between the historic neighborhood you just left and the contemporary city around you.
The tour runs about six hours total and includes hotel pickup in a private vehicle, a guide who speaks English, Spanish or Italian, lunch, snacks, and bottled water throughout the day. Children from age 10 can join when accompanied by an adult.
