An hour navigating powerful rapids surrounded by waterfalls and canyon walls

Rafting in Baños is a guided activity on class III+ and IV rapids with equipment, safety instruction and transport from town. You start at the office at 9am, travel by private vehicle through the Waterfall Route past Agoyán and Bride Mantle falls, receive shore training from your guide, then paddle through an hour of rapids before finishing at the Mole sector. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or Turkish; children from age 1 are welcome, and lunch is included after the run.

The Experience

The day begins at 9am at the office in Baños, where you get your equipment and meet your guide before heading out by private transport. The drive itself is part of the experience—the route passes three named waterfalls: Agoyán, Bride Mantle and Devil's Pavilion. By the time you reach the river, you've already seen the landscape you're about to paddle through.

Before entering the water, your guide runs a safety talk and teaches you the paddle commands on shore so you know what to do when you're in the current. Then you're on the water for an hour navigating class III+ and IV rapids. The canyon walls and surrounding scenery stay with you the whole way through—this is not a flat stretch. When you finish at the Mole sector, the transport is waiting.

Lunch happens after the run, back in Baños, so you have time to dry off and decompress before eating. The whole outing takes five hours from start to finish.

What’s included

  • Private transportation from the office to the river and back to Baños.
  • all rafting equipment.
  • safety instruction and paddle commands taught on shore.
  • a live guide throughout.
  • lunch after the run.

Is this one for you?You paddle the raft yourself on this one, not watch from a boat—the guide steers and calls commands, but your paddle and your crew's paddle power the run. Pick this if you want to be in the current and working, not observing from the side.

Top questions

What do the class III+ and IV rapids feel like compared to easier sections?

Class III+ and IV rapids are powerful and technical—they demand active paddling and quick reactions to the current, but they are not the steepest grade. The guide teaches you the commands before you launch, so you know what to do when the water gets rough.

How long is the actual time spent paddling on the water?

The rafting itself lasts about an hour. The full outing is five hours because it includes the office time for gear, the drive to the river, the safety talk on shore, and lunch afterward.

Can young children go rafting in Baños?

Children are welcome from age 1, though infants must sit on an adult's lap. The guide can advise on whether a specific child is ready for the rapids and the paddle commands.

What waterfalls do you pass on the drive to the river?

The route passes Agoyán, Bride Mantle and Devil's Pavilion waterfalls on the way from Baños to the put-in point. You see them from the vehicle before you get on the water.

What languages does the guide speak?

The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or Turkish. You choose your language preference when you book.
