The Experience

We rolled out of Punta Cana just after sunrise, still half-awake as our minivan zipped past sugarcane fields and little roadside stands selling fruit I couldn’t name. After that, we drove by the Columbus Lighthouse—Faro a Colón—which looks almost futuristic and ancient at the same time (Ana said it’s supposed to hold Columbus’s remains but she just shrugged). Afterward we strolled along El Conde itself—music floating out of shops, kids chasing pigeons. The whole day felt like flipping through pages of a storybook but with sweat on your back and real voices all around you. I still think about that cool cave air sometimes when it gets too hot at home.
