Capture Copenhagen’s most photogenic spots—from lively Nyhavn to royal palaces—with hands-on tips from a local photographer. Perfect for all skill levels and camera types.
Nyhavn’s colors hit you first—those bold facades reflected in the canal, boats bobbing gently, the air tinged with roasted coffee from a nearby kiosk. Our guide, Mads, had us pause by the water’s edge to play with reflections and frame the old wooden ships against the blue sky. Even if you’re new to your camera, he’ll show you how to catch that perfect shot without fussing over settings too much.
We wandered through narrow streets lined with tiny boutiques and bakeries. There’s always someone cycling past or laughing outside a café—great for candid street photos. At Amalienborg Palace, we caught the changing of the guard (they’re surprisingly relaxed if you ask politely for a photo). The square is wide open, so there’s space to experiment with angles and foregrounds—Mads pointed out how to use cobblestones as leading lines.
The Marble Church was next—its dome is huge up close, and there’s this echo when you step inside. Light filters through stained glass in the late morning; it’s magic for portraits or detail shots. Christiansborg Palace sits on its own little island; we played around with symmetry and snapped some creative shots of locals hurrying by on their lunch break.
By the Opera House, things felt more modern—glass and steel everywhere. We tried some playful compositions here; even got a few fun group shots with everyone reflected in the windows. Rosenborg Castle rounded off our walk: it’s tucked into a park where locals picnic under chestnut trees. The castle itself looks almost like something out of a fairytale, but it’s those quiet moments—a couple sharing smørrebrød on a bench—that made my favorite photos from the day.
