The experience

The 40-minute train ride across the Øresund Bridge is the journey itself: sit back on a smooth, modern train and watch the strait open up between Denmark and Sweden. Your host meets you at Copenhagen Central Station and travels with you. The round-trip ticket is already in the price. Once in Malmö, the walk begins at the Knotted Gun, a bronze sculpture outside the station that has become a global symbol of peace, then moves through the city's most recognizable corners: the half-timbered cafés and restaurants of Lilla Torg, the 16th-century Stortorget square with its city hall, and the colourful Dutch-style buildings of Gamla Väster.

Malmöhus Castle anchors the second half of the walk: Scandinavia's oldest preserved Renaissance fortress, built in the 1500s when Malmö was still Danish, now surrounded by moats and green parks. Your guide explains how the city shifted from Danish to Swedish rule in the 1600s and how that shared history still shapes the two countries' relationship today. The walk loops through Slottsparken, the leafy park wrapped around the castle, where a windmill and bridges give way to open water and gardens.

After the walk, you settle into a local café near Lilla Torg for fika: the Swedish ritual of coffee and a pastry, both included. From there, you choose: return to Copenhagen on the train with your guide, or stay in Malmö and use your return ticket whenever you're ready to leave. If you travel back together, the whole experience runs about four hours from Copenhagen Central Station to your return.

Is this one for you?Choose the private tour if you want the walk and the pace to yourself. The group tour works well if you're comfortable sharing the guide and the route with other travelers. Either way, the fixed schedule means you can plan the rest of your Copenhagen day around the four-hour round trip, or stay in Malmö longer and return on your own time.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 16).

How long is the train ride from Copenhagen to Malmö?

The train crosses the Øresund Bridge in 40 minutes. It's a smooth, modern ride with views of the strait linking Denmark and Sweden, and your ticket is included in the tour price.

What is Malmöhus Castle and why does the tour stop there?

Malmöhus Castle is Scandinavia's oldest preserved Renaissance fortress, built by the Danish king in the 1500s and now home to Malmö Museum. The tour passes by the castle and its surrounding moat and parks to show how the city's history connects to Denmark, even though it became Swedish in the 1600s.

What neighborhoods does the guided walk cover in Malmö?

The walk takes you through Gamla Väster with its colourful half-timbered houses, Lilla Torg's cobblestone square lined with cafés, the grand 16th-century Stortorget square, and Slottsparken, the green park surrounding the castle. You'll also see the Knotted Gun sculpture outside the station.

Can I stay longer in Malmö instead of returning to Copenhagen with the guide?

Yes. After the guided walk and fika, you can choose to stay in Malmö and use your return train ticket whenever you're ready to leave. Your guide will give you the ticket in hand, so you travel back on your own schedule.

Is lunch included in this tour?

Lunch is not included. The tour includes a classic Swedish fika (coffee and a pastry) at a local café after the walk. You're welcome to eat elsewhere in Malmö if you choose to stay longer.

Can I book this as a group, or is it only private?

You can choose between a private tour with just your group or a group tour option at checkout. Both follow the same route and include the same guide, train ticket, walk and fika.
