Includes live tales.★ 4.70 (714)1h 45mUS$ 24View › We were already somewhere deep in Bohemian Switzerland when I realized I’d stopped talking just to listen—wind threading through the Tisa Rocks, boots crunching on sandy paths, our guide Jirka pointing out where Lucy from Narnia would’ve stood. He grinned when I asked if he ever got tired of these views. “Never,” he said, and then showed us a little pocket of moss that looked like velvet under my fingers. The air had that cool, piney smell you only get up here. I kept thinking how strange it was to find something so otherworldly just two hours from Prague.
I’ll admit, the brewery stop was half the reason I booked this Prague beer tour. The place dates back to 1849 but didn’t feel stuffy—more like someone’s big kitchen with copper kettles steaming away. On brewing days, you can actually smell the malt before you even see the vats. Our guide (Marek? Or maybe Martin—I’m terrible with names) handed me a glass and laughed when I tried to pronounce “světlý ležák.” Six beers in, plus some proper Czech food—goulash for me, veggie schnitzel for my friend—and we were both a little giddy but not lost.
The last bit was Saxon Switzerland in Germany—just across the border but it felt different somehow. Walking out onto Bastei Bridge, there’s this hush except for crows and distant river sounds below. The stones are rough under your hands; you can see where centuries have worn them down. Jirka told us about old castle ruins nearby—apparently there were battles here ages ago, though now it’s just quiet except for tourists fumbling with cameras (me included). That view over Elbe Canyon stuck with me longer than I expected.
