Step-by-step itinerary
Hiking Artemis and Myllomeris Trails
- Walk Artemis trail (8 km)
- Enjoy vistas and unique flora
- Walk Myllomeris Waterfalls trail (1.2 km each way)
- Explore lush valley and waterfall
- Optional dip in waterfall pool
The experience
The Artemis trail opens at the highest elevation in Cyprus, where barren rock and black pine forest create a landscape unlike the rest of the island. On clear days the views reach across much of Cyprus and toward the coast. The trail is 8 km, flat and straightforward, and draws geology enthusiasts for its exposed rock formations as much as hikers after altitude and perspective. Phivos Ioannides, who leads the walks, has spent years guiding authentic ecotourism trips across Cyprus and authored a guide to exploring the island.
After Artemis, the day shifts to Myllomeris Waterfalls: a linear 1.2 km trail each way at nearly 1,000 meters elevation that descends into a completely different world. Plane trees, strawberry trees, and bracken replace the alpine scrub. The valley stays cool and lush. The trail ends at Cyprus's highest waterfall, where a shallow pool sits at the base. Swimmers often take a dip, especially as summer approaches. The contrast between the two walks (one stark and exposed, one green and sheltered) is the point of pairing them.
Groups stay small, capped at four people per booking, so the pace and stops stay personal. Pickup is included from your agreed starting point in Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca or Ayia Napa. Wear proper walking shoes or sports sandals, bring sun protection and water, and pack snacks if you want them. In winter, if snow covers Artemis (usually January to March), the guide proposes alternatives like the 12 km Madari trail instead.

Top questions
What is the Artemis trail actually like to walk?
Artemis is 8 km long, flat and easy, following the highest elevation route in Cyprus. The trail crosses barren rock and black pine forest, with views across much of the island on clear days and exposed geology that interests walkers interested in rock formations and alpine plants.
Can I swim at Myllomeris Waterfalls?
Yes, a shallow pool sits at the base of Cyprus's highest waterfall where the trail ends. Many walkers take a dip, especially closer to summer when the water is warmer.
How does pickup work with the different departure options?
Pickup is included from your agreed spot in Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca or Ayia Napa. The 8-hour trip departs from Limassol or Nicosia/Larnaca. The 10-hour option starts from Ayia Napa or Protaras and includes the longer drive time.
What happens if there's snow in winter?
If snow covers Artemis between January and March, the guide proposes alternative walks such as the Madari trail (a more difficult 12 km circular route) or the Pouziaris trail instead.
What should I bring and wear?
Wear proper walking shoes or sports sandals, sun protection and bring water. Pack snacks or food if you want them. You'll also need relevant travel insurance before the walk.
