Step-by-step itinerary
Catamaran cruise along Protaras coast
- Board catamaran Mediterraneo III
- Sail towards Famagusta and view Varosha
- Swim stop at Derynia Bay
- Sail along coastline past Fig Tree Bay
- Arrive at Cape Greco Blue Lagoon
- Swim and explore crystal clear waters
- Enjoy buffet meal and complimentary drinks
The experience
You board the Mediterraneo III at Protaras and head north toward Famagusta. The route takes you past the coastline to Varosha, the walled ghost town frozen since 1974. You'll view it from the water and understand why it draws so much attention. From there, the catamaran moves into Derynia Bay for your first swim stop, where the water is clear enough to see the bottom.
After the bay, you sail west along the coast, passing Fig Tree Bay's sandy crescent before arriving at Cape Greco and the Blue Lagoon. This is the second swim stop, and the water here is the kind of blue that photographs don't quite capture. The boat stays long enough to let you explore properly, not just dip and leave. Throughout the day, the open bar runs continuously (water, soft drinks, beer and wine are all free), and the buffet includes seasonal fresh fruit, dessert and a hot meal.
The five-hour loop brings you back to your starting point by early afternoon. An English-speaking guide is on board the whole time, and pickup from your hotel or the meeting point in Protaras is part of the booking, so you don't arrange transport separately. The tour runs subject to weather, and if conditions force a cancellation, you can reschedule or get your money back.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 12 years); Infant (under 3): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is Varosha and why do we view it from the boat?
Varosha is a walled town on the Famagusta coast that has been closed and uninhabited since 1974. You see it from the water because access to the town itself is restricted. The catamaran passes close enough to show you the abandoned buildings and streets from offshore.
How much time do we spend swimming at each stop?
The tour includes two swim stops (one in Derynia Bay and one at Cape Greco's Blue Lagoon) with enough time at each to swim and explore the water properly, though the exact duration depends on the day's schedule and conditions.
Is the lunch hot, and are there options for dietary restrictions?
The buffet includes hot food, seasonal fresh fruit and dessert. Specific dietary options are not detailed in the tour information, so contact the operator before booking if you have restrictions they need to know about.
Do we need to bring anything, or is sun protection provided?
Sun protection and a hat are strongly recommended. Bring your own. The boat provides complimentary drinks and lunch, free WiFi, and towels are standard on board, but sunscreen is not listed as supplied.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the tour?
The tour is subject to favorable weather conditions and availability. If it's canceled due to weather, you can choose an alternative date or receive a full refund.
