Golden Horn beach and two hidden bays in a single morning on the water.

A half-day speedboat tour from Makarska takes you to Brač Island's most swimmable stops: the famous Golden Horn beach near Bol, where you can walk the old stone town, plus two secluded bays in between where the water stays clear enough to snorkel. The tour runs five hours with a live English or Croatian-speaking guide. Snorkel equipment, safety gear and bottled water are included, and children from age four are welcome.

The experience

The boat leaves Makarska marina and heads straight for Brač Island's rocky coast. Your first stop is the Golden Horn (the wide crescent of sand and pebble that shows up in every photo of the Dalmatian coast), where you get time to swim and snorkel in the shallows, or walk uphill into the old town of Bol if you want coffee and the narrow Mediterranean streets instead. The snorkel gear comes with you, so you can use it here or save it for the bays.

On the way back, the boat cuts into two hidden bays where almost nobody else stops. These are the places where the water stays so clear you can see the bottom, and where you get the longest time in the water. You snorkel here, or just float and look down. The speedboat itself is the point. You cover ground fast enough to hit three separate swimming spots in a morning, which is the trade a half-day tour makes for a full one.

Safety equipment and bottled water travel with you. The guide speaks English or Croatian depending on the group, and the tour suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with motion sickness or spinal injuries. Pickup from your hotel is included in at least one booking option.

Is this one for you?The speedboat format means you hit three separate swimming spots in a morning instead of spending half the day at one beach, which suits travelers who want variety and don't want to commit a full day to the water.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English and Croatian.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 10 years). Under 4: they can't be included in the booking.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

Can I snorkel at all three stops, or just at the bays?

Snorkel gear comes with you for the whole tour, so you can use it at the Golden Horn beach, at both hidden bays, or pick and choose. Most travelers snorkel in the bays because the water is clearer and you have more uninterrupted time in the water there.

What is the Golden Horn beach actually like when you get there?

The Golden Horn is a wide, gently sloping crescent of sand and small pebbles backed by the old stone town of Bol. It is the most famous beach on Brač Island and gets busy, but the tour gives you time to swim in the shallows or walk into town for a coffee before heading to the quieter bays.

How much time do you actually spend swimming at each stop?

The tour runs five hours total from Makarska. You get meaningful time in the water at each of the three stops (the Golden Horn, and the two hidden bays), though the exact split depends on the group and the sea conditions on the day.

Is this tour okay for my four-year-old?

Children from age four are welcome on the tour. Snorkel equipment comes in smaller sizes, and the speedboat has safety equipment for all passengers. If your child is not a confident swimmer, you will want to stay close during the water stops.

What happens if I get motion sickness on speedboats?

The tour is not recommended for travelers with motion sickness, as the speedboat moves quickly across open water. If you are prone to seasickness, you may want to take medication before boarding or consider a slower boat option instead.

Do I need to bring my own snorkel gear, or is it provided?

Snorkel equipment is included with the tour. You also get safety equipment and bottled water. Bring sunscreen, a towel and a change of clothes.
