The Experience

The day starts with hotel pickup from Zagreb and a drive south into Istria. Your photographer guide handles the route and timing, so you focus on framing shots rather than navigating between towns. The tour hits three distinct landscapes: Motovun perched on a steep hill with protective walls nearly complete around its edges, Rovinj built right along the Adriatic with houses in bright colors stacked along the shoreline, and Pula's Roman amphitheater standing two centuries old in the middle of the modern town near the sea.

At Motovun, you'll shoot from the surrounding hills first, then walk the walls themselves to see why the town held such strategic importance. In Rovinj, the work is in the cobblestone streets and the harborfront—the St. Euphemia church dominates the skyline from the peninsula's top, and the 62-meter bell tower is the tallest in Istria if you want to climb it. The plateau in front of the church frames views of the Adriatic and catches sunsets. Pula's Arena offers the day's most dramatic light, especially in the late afternoon when the sun hits the Roman stone and the surrounding modern port creates contrast.

The guide is a working photographer who speaks English or French and knows where the light falls at different hours. Transport by private vehicle means no bus schedules or group waits—the route adjusts to weather and light. Groups stay small, capped at seven people, so you're not jostling for angles.
