The experience
You arrive at Elemental Studios in Motovun's hilltop town and spend 90 minutes learning to work glass over an oxy-propane torch. After a safety talk and a short demonstration, you move to your own workspace and start shaping. The guide stays present to answer questions and help you refine technique, but the torch and the glass are yours to work with. You choose your theme depending on the day (Blown Glass Ornaments on Thursdays and Saturdays, Glass Beads on Fridays, or Twisted Icicles on Saturdays), and by the end of the session you've made 2 to 5 pieces that are actually yours, not a souvenir from a shop shelf.
The pieces you make go into the kiln overnight to anneal and cool slowly, which keeps them from cracking. You pick them up the next day, or if you're leaving Motovun before then, you can arrange to have them shipped to you (you pay postage separately). All the materials (the glass rods, the torch time, the safety gear) are built into the class, so there's nothing extra to buy once you've booked.
Motovun itself is a medieval hilltop town with narrow stone streets and views across the Istrian countryside. The workshop sits inside that setting, so you're making art in a place with real history and character, not in a generic studio somewhere else.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (12 to 17 years). Under 12: they can't be included in the booking.
Can I do this if I've never worked with glass before?
Yes. No prior experience is needed. The guide walks you through safety and technique at the start, and you learn by doing during the 90 minutes. Children from age 12 can join.
What exactly do I make, and do I get to keep it?
You create 2 to 5 pieces depending on how fast you work: ornaments, beads or icicles, depending on which day you book. You keep everything you make. The pieces go into the kiln overnight to harden, then you pick them up the next day or have them shipped.
What happens if I can't pick up my pieces before I leave Motovun?
You can arrange shipping when you book. Postage is not included in the class price, so you pay that cost separately based on where you're sending them.
How much time is actually spent making glass versus watching a demo?
After a brief safety talk and demonstration, you have hands-on torch time for the full 90 minutes. The guide is there to help, but you're working the whole session, not sitting and watching.
Is Motovun easy to reach if I'm staying in Rovinj?
Motovun is about 30 kilometers inland from Rovinj in Istria. You'll need your own transport or a local taxi to get there, as the class itself doesn't include pickup or transfers.
