The experience
The day starts with a covered boat ride on the Tárcoles River, one of Costa Rica's most crocodile-dense waterways. You'll spend an hour on the water spotting American crocodiles, white-faced monkeys, herons, lizards and scarlet macaws from a shaded boat built for wildlife viewing and photography. Before the river, the route passes white-faced monkeys near Caldera Port and stops at a fruit stand where you can taste tropical fruits or order a smoothie.
After the river comes the zipline. A 5-minute truck ride takes you up the mountain to the canopy course, where you descend through 10 cables strung across 12 platforms, including 3 suspension bridges. The route runs through rainforest with views of Carara National Park, one of the country's most visited reserves. The course is designed for beginners and families, and trained staff handle all safety equipment.
The return includes a souvenir stop at El Jardín, where you can taste some of Costa Rica's best coffee and use free WiFi, then a city tour of Puntarenas showing the fish market, the oldest church and the ferry terminal. Hotel pickup and drop-off, an air-conditioned vehicle, a bilingual guide and all park fees are included.
