"The crocodiles, they know the tide better than we do," our guide said, checking his watch against the river's rhythm. That's the first thing you learn on a Tamarindo estuary boat safari: the whole thing moves with the water, not the clock. Your pickup time lands in your inbox after booking because the tour runs on high tide, and that's actually what makes it work. The boat leaves from the rivermouth in Tamarindo itself, so there's no long bus ride to some distant launch point. You get picked up from your hotel in Tamarindo or Langosta, driven maybe five minutes, and you're on the water.

The boat is shaded, which matters when you're sitting still watching for movement in the mangroves.
