The experience
The boat leaves from your hotel and heads out along the gulf to shallow reefs a short distance offshore. Once in the water, you're in depths where you can stand and move freely, not drifting over a trench. The marine life here (octopus, sea starfish, pufferfish, and schools of colored fish) stays put in the shallows, so you see them without chasing or waiting. The guide is in the water with you, not narrating from the boat.
Between snorkel sessions, watch for sea turtles and dolphins on the ride. Whales pass through these waters in August, September and October. The whole outing runs three hours, with fruit, snacks, sodas, water and beer included. You bring nothing except sunscreen and the willingness to get wet. The operator provides the mask, fins and snorkel.
Children from age three are welcome. The activity suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. A guide who speaks your language (English or Spanish) stays with the group the whole time.

Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (11 to 17 years); Child (7 to 10 years); Infant (3 to 6 years): free. Children under 3 can't be included in the booking.
What kind of marine life will I actually see snorkeling at Playa Hermosa?
Octopus, sea starfish, pufferfish and schools of colored fish live in the shallow reefs where you snorkel. Sea turtles and dolphins often appear during the boat ride, and whales pass through from August to October.
How deep is the water where I'll be snorkeling?
The snorkeling happens in shallow water where you can stand and move freely, not in deep channels or open ocean. The reefs are close to shore and designed for wading depth.
What's included in the three hours, and what do I need to bring?
The snorkeling equipment (mask, fins and snorkel) is provided. Pineapple, watermelon, snacks, sodas, water and beer are included. Bring sunscreen and a towel. The guide handles the rest.
Does the guide stay in the water with us, or do they stay on the boat?
The licensed guide enters the water with you and stays with the group throughout the snorkeling. They speak English or Spanish and point out where to look for the marine life.
How do I get to the boat if I'm staying at a hotel without direct beach access?
Hotel pickup is included. The guide collects you from your hotel location before heading to the boat. This works whether your hotel is beachfront or inland in Playa Hermosa.
