Four separate activities in one morning, then lunch and a soak in the hot springs

An 8-hour tour from Tamarindo Beach into the foothills of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano combines canopy ziplining with rock climbing, rappelling and a ferrate wall, followed by horseback riding, river tubing at Rio Colorado, and a soak in natural hot springs. A professional guide in English, Spanish or Dutch harnesses you through each activity, and a typical Costa Rican lunch at the ranch fuels the afternoon.

The experience

The canopy tour is the anchor: you're harnessed and clipped into a series of ziplines that cross the forest canopy, but the route also weaves in rock climbing sections, rappelling descents and a ferrate wall. A steel cable you traverse using handholds and foot pegs. It's not a single activity repackaged. Each one uses different equipment and a different set of muscles. After the canopy work, you ride a horse for around 25 minutes through the terrain, then move to Rio Colorado for tubing. The river runs class 2 and 3 rapids, and the float takes about an hour and a half, so it's a real current, not a drift.

Lunch happens at the ranch (a buffet of typical Costa Rican food), and then you head to the natural hot springs and mud baths to soak and recover. The guide handles all the harnesses and gear setup. You just show up ready to move. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included for selected hotels in the Tamarindo area, and the whole thing runs 8 hours from start to finish.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish and Dutch.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 10 years); Infant (1 to 5 years).

What's the difference between the canopy tour and a regular zipline?

The canopy tour mixes ziplining with rock climbing, rappelling and a ferrate wall, so you're not just sliding across cables. You're also ascending, descending and traversing a steel cable using handholds. Each section uses different techniques and equipment.

How hard is the river tubing at Rio Colorado?

Rio Colorado runs class 2 and 3 rapids, so it's moving water with some current and small drops, not a calm float. The tubing lasts about an hour and a half and comes after the morning's climbing and ziplining, so it's the cooldown part of the day.

What happens if I can't do all four activities?

The tour is built around doing all four (canopy, horseback, tubing and hot springs), but if you have concerns about any one, mention it when you book. The guide can advise on modifications, though the tour is designed for moderate fitness and movement across all four.

Is lunch included, or do I need to bring my own food?

Lunch is included: a buffet of typical Costa Rican food served at the ranch after the morning activities. Alcoholic drinks are available to purchase separately.
