Lake Arenal Paddle Board Experience: Wildlife & Jungle Spots
Your guide is a lifeguard and SUP surfer with 15 years on the water.
A private paddle board experience on Lake Arenal with a professional instructor who takes you to protected jungle spots away from crowds. You get a basic technical lesson in safety and technique, time to paddle in secure areas while spotting wildlife like otters, turtles and birds, refreshment fruits, and professional photos and edited video as a gift. The guide speaks English and Spanish, pickup is included, and children are welcome from age 8.
The Experience
You start with a technical lesson in paddle board safety and the basics of the SUP activity itself, then paddle into protected areas of Lake Arenal where the wind stays manageable and the jungle closes in. Your guide, Jose, has worked as a lifeguard and fire fighter trained in national parks, and he surfs SUP himself — he knows where the otters hunt, where turtles surface, and which spots the tour boats never reach. You paddle alone or with your family or friends, no group, no strangers, and the whole thing runs about two and a half hours.
While you paddle, Jose photographs and films the day — the water, the wildlife, the moment you spot something unexpected. He shares refreshment fruits along the way and stays close enough to make sure you feel secure in the water. The professional photos and edited video come back to you after the tour, a gift included in the price. Lake Arenal has two bodies of water to choose from, so you pick which one suits your mood or the wildlife you want to see.
Pickup is arranged before you book, and the guide meets you ready to go. Children from age 8 are welcome, and the operator notes that SUP tours work for people with disabilities — just share your details when you reserve so the setup fits what you need. If you want to add an ATV tour of the mountain behind the lake for views of the lake and volcanoes, that's available as a complement to the paddle board day.
