The experience
Two hours of riding, split into a morning slot from 9:00 am to 11:00 am or an afternoon one from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. An air-conditioned vehicle picks you up and brings you to where the ATVs are stationed. Once there, the guide gives a safety briefing and walks you through how to operate the machine: essential if you've never ridden before, and a good refresher if you have. Helmets are provided. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants if you want extra protection from mud. Shorts are allowed, but the trails get wet and messy.
The route runs from Playa Grande all the way to Atapalo Beach, and the path between them is what makes this different from a standard trail ride. You'll cross rivers and estuaries, hop between beaches, and cut through back roads built for off-roading. The tropical dry forest sits between the coast and the inland terrain, so the landscape shifts as you ride. Safety is the operator's priority, which is why the guide stays with the group and the equipment is checked before every departure.
