The experience

The van ride out of Medellin was louder than I expected: some reggaeton on the radio, our guide (Juan) chatting about Envigado’s hills, and that faint smell of morning rain on the windows. I kept watching the city fade behind us, thinking how fast it went from busy streets to green everywhere. Juan handed out sandwiches for later and joked that we’d earn them.

The trail started soft underfoot, almost spongy from last night’s drizzle. There was this moment when the fog rolled between the trees and everything felt muffled except for water somewhere ahead, not loud, but steady.
