The experience

The day begins at 8am when your guide meets you in your hotel lobby in Yangshuo, holding a paper with your name. From there, you drive to Seven Fairies Peak tea plantation, where you put on a hat, pick tea leaves from the terraced slopes, and carry your basket back down. The guide walks you through the whole process (half an hour of picking if it's kumquat season and the fruit is ripe), then you move indoors to make tea, drink what you've made, and listen to the guide explain the local tea traditions.

After tea, you drive to Xianggong Hill, a steep local mountain a short distance from Yangshuo. Lunch happens at a restaurant in town first, where you eat local food, then you climb. The hike itself is the centerpiece: from the top, you see the Li River winding below in its famous S-curves, and depending on the time of day and weather, you catch sunlight and shadow playing across the water, clouds gathering in the valleys, and if you time it right, the sunset and the rosy light that follows. You come back down, get driven back to your hotel, and the day ends.

What exactly do I do at the Seven Fairies Peak tea plantation?

At Seven Fairies Peak, you pick tea leaves yourself from the plantation terraces wearing a hat and carrying a basket, following the guide's lead. If kumquat is in harvest season, you also spend about half an hour picking ripe fruit. Then you move to a tea-making area where you make tea from what you've picked, drink it, and listen to the guide explain the tea and local customs.

How difficult is the hike up Xianggong Hill?

Xianggong Hill is described as suitable for all physical fitness levels, so the climb is manageable for most people. The reward is the view of the Li River's meandering course from the top, along with the light and cloud effects that change through the afternoon and into sunset.

What time does the tour start and end?

The tour starts at 8am when your guide meets you at your hotel lobby. The full day is eight hours, so you're back at your hotel by late afternoon or early evening, depending on traffic and how long you spend on the hill.

Is lunch included, and where do we eat?

Lunch is included at a local restaurant in Yangshuo, served after you leave the tea plantation and before you climb Xianggong Hill. The guide will take you to a place where you can taste local food.

Do I need to arrange my own transport to the tea plantation?

No. Your guide and driver pick you up at your Yangshuo hotel in the morning and drop you back there at the end of the day. The tour includes transport by private air-conditioned vehicle for the whole route.
