The experience
Eight hours takes you through the Terracotta Army site first, where your guide walks you through Pit 1 (the largest, holding an estimated 6,000 figures and bronze weaponry), then Pit 2 with its 1,300 warriors and horses, and Pit 3, the smallest command center with 72 figures. You'll also see the Bronze Chariot Pit, which holds two painted bronze chariots that are the earliest, largest and best-preserved bronze artifacts in the world. The sequence moves from general to detailed, following historical clues that lead back to Emperor Qin Shi Huang and the Qin Dynasty.
After lunch, you reach the Ancient City Wall, first built in the Ming Dynasty and now the largest and best-maintained ancient city wall in China. The wall is 13.74 kilometers around, shaped like a rectangle, with four major gates. You choose how to spend this time: walk from the East Gate to the South Gate (about 3.5 kilometers), or rent a bike and cycle the full loop from East Gate through the North and West gates back to South Gate (about 10 kilometers). Your guide arranges the bike rental at your own cost and meets you at the South Gate.
The day ends in the Muslim Quarter, a 500-meter avenue of blue-stone paving 100 meters west of the Bell Tower, lined with stalls, shops, cafés and bars run mostly by Muslim families. Hotel pickup is included within the second ring road of Xian city and from the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda area. Your guide will call or message the night before with the exact time.
