The Experience

Your guide meets you at the hotel at 9 a.m. and drives you to Shanghai Tower, the city's tallest building at 632 meters. You'll visit the exhibition hall on the basement level first, then take the express elevator to the 118th floor — it reaches 18 meters per second and covers the distance in 55 seconds. The observation deck, called Top of Shanghai Observatory, is the world's highest indoor one, and from there you can see both sides of the Huangpu River spread out below.

After Shanghai Tower, the route heads to Donghai Bridge, also known as the East Sea Grand Bridge. It's China's first sea-crossing bridge, a cable-stay structure that stretches across the East China Sea and connects Shanghai to Yangshan Island. The bridge is shaped like an S for safety reasons, and you'll drive along it toward the port. The engineering is visible as you cross — the graceful curve and the scale of it become clear only when you're on it.

The final stop is Yangshan Deep Water Port, which handles more cargo than any other port in the world. Built to bypass the shallow waters that limited Shanghai's older port, it can accommodate berths up to 15 meters deep and handles the largest container ships in operation. You'll visit the exhibition hall and then take a short hike in the Yangshan scenic area, which gives you a vantage point to see both the bridge and the port together. The tour ends with that view.
