The experience

The day starts at Shanghai Zoo, a state-level facility with more than 6,000 animals across five exhibition zones. You'll spend time in the Carnivore zone watching giant pandas in a fan-shaped habitat with indoor and outdoor areas, trees, lawns, artificial mountains and pools. From there, the metro takes you to Qibao Ancient Town, a water-town district in Minhang with over a thousand years of history. The Cricket Museum there shows live cricket fighting, and the old streets are lined with local snacks and shops. The kind of place you can explore without the crowds or the distance of other water townships near Shanghai.

After Qibao, you head to Shanghai Tower, the city's tallest building at 632 meters. A rapid elevator reaches the 118th floor in 55 seconds, where the Top of Shanghai observation hall gives you a bird's-eye view of the city and both sides of the Huangpu River. The final stop is the Bund, the famous waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu, where 26 buildings of different architectural styles line the water: the symbol of Shanghai's blend of century-old history and modern growth.

Travel between sites is by metro, the way locals move through the city. The professional guide handles the route and timing. Entrance fees to all four attractions and metro fares are included. The tour runs 9 hours total, and you'll cover ground on foot at each stop, so comfortable shoes matter.
