The experience

The tour begins with pickup from your downtown Shanghai hotel and a drive to a local restaurant where you'll eat dim sum, including the city's famous soup dumplings and dishes tailored to your dietary preferences. After dinner, your guide leads you on foot through the Old Town as it lights up at night: the Yu Garden Bazaar, the charming Nine Zigzag bridge, and the surrounding buildings all bathed in gold light. Your guide shares the stories and customs behind what you're seeing as you walk.

The core tour runs three to four hours and includes the guide, the meal, and the vehicle. If you book the dinner-only option, that's the full experience. If you add the VIP cruise, you'll board a river boat after the Old Town walk and drift along the Huangpu River, taking in the skyline of both banks: the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jinmao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Shanghai Tower and the rest of the modern waterfront lit up against the night. If you choose the observation deck option instead, you pick one tower (Shanghai Tower, Oriental Pearl, Jinmao, or Shanghai World Financial) and ride to the top for a panoramic view of the entire city after dark.

Hotel pickup covers downtown Shanghai only. Hotels in outer districts like Jiading, Songjiang, Qingpu, Jinqiao or Chuansha will need to meet your guide at a downtown point instead. The guide will provide those instructions when you book. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the tour runs in all weather, so dress for the season.
