Private Shanghai Evening Street Food Walking and Cruise Tour
Street food, walking stories, and the Huangpu River lit up at night
A private evening walking tour in Shanghai that starts with traditional street food tastings in the city center, moves through the Old Town Bazaar toward the Bund with guide commentary on local culture and history, and ends with a 60-minute sightseeing cruise on the Huangpu River. Your English-speaking guide meets you at a designated point, handles the route and timing, and arranges your taxi back to your hotel at the end. The food stalls close early, so same-day arrivals landing after 3 p.m. should not book this tour.
Step-by-step itinerary
Evening street food and river cruise
- Meet guide at designated point
- Enjoy traditional Shanghai snacks
- Walk towards the Bund via Old Town Bazaar
- Listen to guide on local culture and history
- Board sightseeing boat for Huangpu River cruise
- Return to hotel by taxi with guide's help
The Experience
Meet your guide at the agreed time and head straight to one of Shanghai's oldest food streets, where the stalls are still open and the crowd is local. You'll stop at a few places to taste Shanghai soup dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, traditional Shanghai noodles, freshly baked Xinjiang-style nang bread, lamb skewers, and a local dessert. The food is enough for dinner, and your guide picks the stops—no hunting or deciding on your own.
After eating, you walk toward the Bund, passing through the Shanghai Old Town Bazaar where colonial buildings and modern skylines light up as evening sets in. Your guide talks about the neighborhood's history, the customs that shaped it, and how the city has changed. The walk gives you a sense of how the old quarters sit against the new Shanghai, and you move at a pace that lets you take it in without rushing.
Then you board a sightseeing boat for a 60-minute cruise on the Huangpu River. From the water, you see the Peace Hotel, Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Tower, and the Shanghai World Financial Center all lit up. The boat is the easiest way to see how the landmarks sit in relation to each other and to understand the scale of the city. When the cruise ends, your guide helps you get a taxi back to your hotel.

What kind of street food will I actually eat on this tour?
You'll taste Shanghai soup dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, traditional Shanghai noodles, freshly baked Xinjiang-style nang bread, lamb skewers, and a local dessert—enough for a full dinner. Your guide chooses the stops and the portions are set, so you're not deciding at each stall.
How long is the river cruise on the Huangpu River?
The cruise lasts 60 minutes and runs in the evening when the landmarks along the Bund are lit up. You'll see the Peace Hotel, Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Tower, and the Shanghai World Financial Center from the water.
If I'm arriving at the airport the same day, can I still book this tour?
Only if your flight lands before 3 p.m. The food stalls close early in the evening, and the tour starts at your preferred time, so a late arrival means you'll miss the food portion. Any flight landing after 3 p.m. makes this tour unsuitable for that day.
Does the tour include hotel pickup, or do I need to get to the meeting point myself?
You meet your guide at a designated point—there is no hotel pickup included. Provide your hotel information or local contact number when you book so your guide can reach you if anything changes. At the end, your guide helps you get a taxi back to your hotel.
What is the Old Town Bazaar, and what will I see there?
The Shanghai Old Town Bazaar is a historic neighborhood near the Bund with beautiful colonial buildings. During the evening walk, you'll pass through it and see how the old architecture is lit up against the modern skyline, while your guide explains the local culture and history of the area.
Is this tour suitable if I'm traveling with young children?
The tour involves walking and is not recommended for families with infants or small children. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and infants need to sit on an adult's lap during the river cruise, but the walking distance and evening timing make it better suited to older kids and adults.
