The experience

Your guide meets you in the hotel lobby between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. with a name sign, then drives you to the Huangshan Scenic Area transfer center. From there, a shuttle takes you to Yungu cable station. You can ride the cable car up (CNY 80 per person) or hike. Most travelers take the cable car to preserve energy for the peaks themselves. The mountain section runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Five solid hours on the trails.

The route covers White Goose Peak, Beginning-to-Believe Peak and Lion Peak, with named formations like the Black Tiger pine and the flower grown out of a writing brush rock. Lunch happens on the mountain at your own cost. The descent starts at 2:30 p.m.: you can walk down or take the cable car again (CNY 80). Either way, you're back in Huangshan city by 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. The whole day, pickup to drop-off, is 10 hours.
