The experience

Longji Rice Terraced Fields sits in Longsheng county, a landscape carved by Zhuang and Yao farmers over more than 2,000 years. The terraces climb from 350 meters to 1,300 meters altitude across six villages, and your guide meets you at your hotel around 8 am to start the day. You'll travel by vehicle to the fields, then hike roughly an hour and 8 kilometers from Guzhuang Village down to Ping'an Village, stopping at the Slender Ditch viewpoint to take in the scale of the terraced slopes before you descend.

After lunch (on your own), you'll spend the afternoon in Ping'an Village itself, the most photographed spot in Longji. You'll see the Seven Star with Moon viewpoint, then meet a Yao woman from a nearby village who wears the red clothes and long hair that mark her ethnic group, and learn that girls in Yao culture only cut their hair twice in their whole lives. The tour closes at the Nine Dragons and Five Tigers viewpoint, the highest point of the day and the one most visitors come for. By 6 pm, your guide drives you back to your hotel in Guilin or Yangshuo.

Groups cap at 10 people, which keeps the pace manageable and the experience less crowded than larger tours. If your group grows beyond six, you'll transfer to shuttle buses at the scenic area due to vehicle restrictions on the mountain roads. The shuttle fee is already built into your price. Bottled water is provided throughout the day. Bring comfortable hiking shoes and sun protection for the exposed terraces.

How far is the hike from Guzhuang to Ping'an Village?

The hike covers about 8 kilometers and takes roughly an hour to complete. It descends through the terraced fields, so you'll be walking downhill most of the way.

Your guide picks you up from your hotel around 8 am. The tour ends around 6 pm when you're dropped back at your hotel in Guilin or Yangshuo.
