Step-by-step itinerary
Half-day Hangzhou sightseeing tour
- Hotel or train station pick up
- Boat cruise on West Lake
- Visit Meijiawu Tea Village
- Explore Song Dynasty Imperial Street
- Drop off at hotel or train station
The experience
Four to five hours covers the core of Hangzhou without eating a full day. The boat ride on West Lake opens the tour. You'll glide past willow-lined shores, ancient pagodas, arched bridges and green islands while your guide points out the landmarks. The lake is what Hangzhou is built around, and seeing it from the water rather than from the bank changes how the city reads.
Meijiawu Tea Village sits in the hills south of the lake and is where Longjing (Dragon Well) tea originates. You walk through the tea terraces, and either your guide or a tea farmer shows you how the leaves are picked by hand and fried: the centuries-old process that earned this tea its China Famous Tea title. You taste a freshly brewed cup in the village setting itself, not in a shop. The tea village is the quiet center of the tour. The pace here is yours to set.
He Fang Street closes the loop. It's a pedestrian street lined with traditional architecture, snack bars serving local Hangzhou dishes, and shops selling antiques, embroidered silks and other crafts. This is where you see the old city as locals move through it. Your guide then drops you at your hotel or train station in Hangzhou downtown.
