The experience
Three packages let you shape the day around your cruise schedule. The downtown Beijing option gives you 2–3 attractions to choose from (Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Lama Temple, or traditional hutongs) with a guide who paces the visit to your comfort and explains the history of each site. The Great Wall package takes you directly from the port to one of three sections: Badaling (the most visited and well-preserved), Mutianyu (known for scenery and fewer crowds), or Juyongguan (historically significant). If you want both, the full-day tour stacks the Forbidden City with Mutianyu Great Wall, though the timing is tight: roughly 2.5 hours to the Forbidden City, 2 hours there, 1.5 hours to the wall, and 3 hours back to port.
Your private guide meets you in downtown Beijing (not at the port), while the driver picks you up and drops you back at Tianjian Xingang Port. Entrance fees for your selected attractions are built in. Cable car rides at the Great Wall are optional and paid on site. Lunch is on your own, though your guide will point you toward local restaurants. Note that the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven close on Mondays, so the tour swaps in the Summer Palace instead. You can end the day back at the port to rejoin your cruise or stay in Beijing if your schedule allows.

Is this one for you?Choose the downtown-only package if you have a few hours between ship departure and return; pick the Great Wall option if you want one iconic landmark without the rush of multiple stops; go for the combined tour only if you're willing to start early and spend the full day, since fitting both the Forbidden City and Great Wall into one visit means minimal time at each site.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 10 years); Infant (under 4): free.
What's the difference between visiting just downtown Beijing and adding the Great Wall?
Downtown Beijing focuses on imperial palaces and temples within the city. You pick 2–3 sites and spend roughly 4 hours total. Adding the Great Wall extends the day to around 8 hours and includes travel to one of three wall sections. The combined tour pairs the Forbidden City with Mutianyu Great Wall but requires an early start and a full day.
Can I choose which attractions to see on the downtown tour?
Yes. You select 2–3 from Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Lama Temple, or traditional hutongs, and tell the operator at booking. Your guide will tailor the pace and route to fit your choices and the time you have before your cruise departs.
What happens if the Forbidden City is closed when I want to visit?
The Forbidden City closes on Mondays, so if your tour date falls on a Monday, the operator replaces it with the Summer Palace, which offers similar imperial gardens and architecture.
Do I have to return to the port, or can I stay in Beijing after the tour?
You choose at booking. Most travelers return to Tianjian Xingang Port to rejoin their cruise, but you can end the tour in Beijing if your schedule allows. Just confirm your disembarkation time with your cruise company first.
Is lunch included, and what about cable cars at the Great Wall?
Lunch is not included. Your guide will recommend local restaurants at your own expense. Cable car rides at the Great Wall are optional and paid on site if you want them.
Which Great Wall section should I choose if I'm returning to the port?
If you're heading back to Tianjian Xingang Port, the operator recommends Huangyaguan Great Wall in Tianjin, which is closer to the port and saves travel time. If you're staying in Beijing, Badaling is the most famous and well-preserved, while Mutianyu offers fewer crowds and better scenery.
