The Experience

The driver picks you up at Beijing Capital Airport or your hotel within the 5th Ring Road and drives you in a private air-conditioned vehicle to Mutianyu, about 1.5 hours north. The section of wall here is the most visited outside the city, with restored Ming-era stonework and a gentler grade than some other sections. You'll have between 3 and 5 hours to walk the wall, choose which direction to explore, and stop for photographs without a group schedule dictating your stops.

The cable car and toboggan (a slide descent) operate on-site if you want them, but both are paid separately. Many visitors hike up one section and ride down, or walk the ridge in both directions depending on how much time and energy they have. The wall here has fewer steep scrambles than Jinshanling or Simatai, so the pace stays manageable for most fitness levels. Bring water and wear shoes with grip; the stone can be uneven and slippery after rain.

The driver waits during your time on the wall and drives you back to your starting point. This is an 8-hour tour total; if you need more time at the wall or want to add another stop, you can arrange that at checkout for an additional fee. Note that drivers may use a translation app to communicate, and at least 3 hours' notice is required if you're booking the same day.
